Link the widget to a component
Point the widget at the page, frame, section or component your work lives in.
Linking tells Compfeed which part of the Figma file this contribution is about. The link is what lets the widget record checks and lets Compfeed show a preview of the work.
For the person contributing: a designer.
Before you begin
The widget is added and connected. See Set up the widget.
What the link points at
By default the widget links to the page it sits on, and the page name is what appears in Compfeed. The widget tells you this: Pagename is set on default, change in settings.
You can point it at something narrower instead: a component, a frame or a section. Narrowing it lets you keep several widgets on one page, which is what you want when the same component ships for several platforms and each needs its own contribution.
As a rule, keep one component per page. Reach for frames or sections when a single page genuinely holds more than one contribution.
Change what the link points at
Open the plugin window
Select the widget and open its settings with the cogwheel.
Go to the linked element
Find the linked element, and choose the pencil to change it.
Select in Figma
Choose SELECT FIGMA COMPONENT, then select the component, frame or section in the file.
Save
Save the selection.
Expected result
The name of what you selected appears in Compfeed once you refresh the widget or interact with it. The widget can now record checks against this contribution.
Go back to linking the whole page
In the same place, remove the selection to return to the page as the link.
If something doesn't work
- The widget shows Where is the checklist?: nothing is linked yet. Work through the steps above.
- Ticking a check does nothing: the widget needs a link before it can record anything.
- The new name has not reached Compfeed: refresh the widget, or interact with it once.
- Anything else: see Troubleshooting.
