Add a contribution

Put a component on a process so its progress is visible to the whole team.

A contribution is one component moving through a process. Adding it puts the component on your team's Dashboard, where everyone can see which phase it is in.

Our example runs throughout: a team adds a loading state to its Button component.

Before you begin

  • A published process on the team. See Create a process.
  • The Admin or Editor role on that team. A Viewer cannot add components.

Add the component

Open the team's components

Go to your team. The page is headed with your team name followed by components.

If nothing is there yet, you see Nothing here yet and Components you create will appear here.

Add it

Choose Add component.

Name it and pick the process

Name the component after the thing being contributed, so Button, not Button loading state. A component carries all its contributions over time.

Pick the process it should follow.

Expected result

The Button appears on the Dashboard, in the first phase of the process you picked. A component always starts in the first phase.

Find contributions on the Dashboard

Your team's components page is the Dashboard. Two views sit in the page header:

ViewShows
GRIDOne card per component, with a preview image and its phase. This is the default.
TABLEOne row per component, with a column for every check in the process, so you can see which checks are done across the whole team.

In GRID, a component's phase appears on its card as a coloured pill. In TABLE, the phase is a coloured dot; hover it to read the phase name.

Four filters sit above the list: process, phase, activity and user. The phase filter appears once you have picked a specific process. activity narrows by when something last happened, from Today to Last 90 days. You can also sort by Most recent, Oldest, Name (A-Z) or Name (Z-A).

The organization-wide My components page in the sidebar shows your components across every team, filtered by team.

Move a contribution to the next phase

Phases do not advance on their own. Ticking checks records progress, but it does not move the component.

To move the Button on, open it and select the phase you want it in. You can do this in the component's document in the web app, or from the phase chip in the Figma widget. Both need the Admin or Editor role.

The progress figure on a component counts every check in the whole process, not only the checks in its current phase.

Each component's menu

The ... menu on a component card holds Change settings, Copy link, Create story and Delete component. Create story is the Shortcut integration.

If something doesn't work

  • Add component is missing: you have the Viewer role. Ask a team admin for Editor.
  • The page says No process found: the team has no published process yet. See Create a process.
  • Anything else: see Troubleshooting.
